| Abstract: | O ensaio procura situar e interpretar o romance Vida ociosa, de Godofredo Rangel, no contexto modernista, vinculando tanto no âmbito do texto em si como em horizonte histórico aspectos da linguagem e da ação narrativas, e verificando uma relação necessária entre a arte excessiva no estilo do autor e o enredo precário de acontecimentos na obra. Essa relação acusa a possibilidade de o leitor não só reconhecer no livro uma dimensão crítica, mas compreender seu narrador entediado e conformista, que se define pela insatisfação dupla que articula a estagnação no interior de Minas Gerais e o horror nos centros avançados do mundo. |
| Abstract: | Reading and situating Godofredo Rangel’s novel Vida ociosa in the context of Brazilian modernist literature, this essay associates aspects of language and plot by intersecting text analysis and historical scope. It also observes a necessary relationship between the author’s highly elaborate style and the lack of events in the narrative. Moreover, it unfolds a critical dimension in the book while understanding its bored narrator and relating the stagnation of provincial life and the horrors in the Western world’s capitals. |
