dc.description.abstractObjective:To evaluate the effect of total and partial, removable prosthetic rehabilitation, in a long-term home in southern Minas Gerais. Methodology:The study was of the pre and post intervention type using the Assessment of the impact of oral health on quality of life (OHIP-EDENT) and Visual analog scale (EVA). Results:Comparing the perception of the elderly before and after the intervention, a significant impact (P<0.05) of the new prostheses on oral health was observed regarding the improvement in chewing (14.3% - 71.4%), comfort to eat (28.6% - 78.6%), satisfaction with the smile and reduced food restriction for not being able to chew the food (14.3% - 57.1%). As for the psychosocial part, there was an improvement in stress due to problems with oral health (71.4% - 21.4%), embarrassment (50% - 7.1%), sadness (78.6% - 35.7%), avoiding company (57.1% - 14.3%), and avoiding going out (50% - 7.1%). The interviewees also recognized that the old prostheses or the non-use of prostheses represents a problem in the life of these individuals. Conclusion:The study concludes that the use of prostheses promotes a favorable impact on the lives of their patientspt_BR
dc.description.resumoObjetivo:Avaliar o efeito da reabilitação protética sobre a qualidade de vida de moradores de um lar de longa permanência para idosos no sul de Minas Gerais. Metodologia:O estudo foi do tipo pré e pós-intervenção utilizando a avaliação do impacto da saúde oral sobre a qualidade de vida (OHIP-EDENT) e a escala visual analógica (EVA). Resultados:Comparando a percepção do idoso antes e após a intervenção, foi observado um impacto significativo (p<0,05) das novas próteses sobre a saúde bucal quanto à melhora na mastigação (14,3% - 71,4%); conforto para comer (28,6% - 78,6%) satisfação com o sorriso e a diminuição da restrição alimentar por não conseguir mastigar o alimento (14,3% - 57,1%). Quanto à parte psicossocial, ocorreu melhora do estresse causado por ter problemas com a saúde oral (71,4% - 21,4%); constrangimento (50% - 7,1%); tristeza (78,6% - 35,7%); evitar companhia (57,1% - 14,3%) e evitar sair (50% - 7,1%). Verificou-se também reconhecimento por parte dos entrevistados, de que as próteses antigas ou o não uso de próteses representa um problema na vida desses indivíduos.
