| Abstract: | Examinando o debate tradicional sobre o sentido e a autenticidade de Ilíada, XII, 1-33, que conta em prolepse externa a destruição do muro aqueu por Apolo e Posêidon, reconsidero as semelhanças com a petrificação da nau dos feácios, anunciada em Odisseia, VIII, 564-71 e descrita em XIII, 125-87, e com a referência de Hesíodo a uma estirpe dos heróis nos Trabalhos e dias, 156-73. Defendendo que o emprego do termo hēmítheoi em Ilíada XII agride o principal critério de distinção entre homens e deuses em Homero, a oposição entre mortalidade e imortalidade, ofereço mais um argumento para a suspeição de que o início do canto XII foi um acréscimo posterior à maior parte da obra. |
| Abstract: | Examining the traditional debate about the meaning and the authenticity of Iliad 12.1-33, which tell in external prolepsis the Achaean wall’s destruction by Apollo and Poseidon, I reconsider the ressemblances with the petrification of the Phaecians’ ship, announced in Odyssey 8.564-71 and described in 13.125-87, and with Hesiod’s reference to a lineage of heroes in the Works and Days, 156-73. Proposing that the usage of hemitheoi in Iliad’s book 12 contradicts the main criterion of distinction between men and gods in the poem, viz. the opposition between mortality and immortality, I offer one more argument in support of the suspicion that the beginning of book XII was a later addition to the greatest part of the poem. |
