Abstract: | The musculoskeletal system is responsible for giving shape, stability, and movement to the human body. Within all its integration there is the fascia. Fascia is a sheet of connective tissue that can become stiff and tense, compromising muscle flexibility. Techniques to help reduce these tensions are widely used in the rehabilitation process. This study aimed to investigate which myofascial release techniques are used to obtain flexibility gains in young adult individuals. This is a narrative review of the literature. The search for articles was carried out in the Scielo, PEDRo, and PubMed databases from 2016 to 2021. The inclusion criteria were: a) text written in Portuguese or English, b) a sample composed of healthy individuals of both sexes with ages between 18 and 60 years c) an intervention group receiving some myofascial release technique d) intervention studies. The exclusion criteria were: a) review studies and b) methodological studies. 40 articles were found, after reading the titles, abstracts, and articles, 4 articles remained that were included in this review. The present study identified that self-myofascial release and manual myofascial release performed by a physiotherapist were the most common techniques found in the literature. Future studies are needed to identify the effectiveness of these training sessions onmuscle flexibility in healthy adults. |
