Other Titles: | “Black Sisyphus”, by Claire Harris: discussions on humanity through decolonial perspectives |
Authors: | Sandra Regina Goulart Almeida Liane Schneider |
Abstract: | Along the present article, we propose a critical reading of the poem “Black Sisyphus”, by Claire Harris, recreated in the elation of a father figure and a six-years old child, rereading western cultural traditions through different lenses if compared to classic views on such a mythological figure. Departing from readings developed by Lynette Hunter, Rosemary Sullivan, SmaroKamboureli and George Elliot Clarke, we critically discuss several discourses on the poetic production of the analyzed Caribbean Canadian poet. We also point out ideas by Spivak, Quijano, Mignolo and Lugones, who support the decolonial debate we propose. Black experience is represented through displacement between Americas and Africa, in tune with decolonial debate, stressing resistance constructed through different generations. |
