Abstract: | The objective of this work is to investigate the impacts of the trade liberalization process carried out in the 1980s in Bangladesh on the female workforce dedicated to clothing production in that country, taking into account the high rate of employability of women in the workforce. of work in the sector in recent decades and its large representation in global production and exports. It is based on the premise that economies have different structures, which tend to have specific repercussions and different distributional effects on men and women. Based on research that applies the trade and gender perspective and brings together empirical data, it is identified that the Bangladeshi economy grew sustainably from the 1980s to the recent period, as well as its GDP per capita, production volume and the country's apparel exports, but preserved many gender inequalities. The economic performance had little effect on improving the well-being of the local female workforce employed in the clothing sector or removing women from their condition of social subordination. |
