Abstract: | The article seeks to measure, through the application of the Input-Output model, the impacts of Covid-19 on the cultural economy in Brazil in terms of the gross value of production, income and employment, more emphatically in the consumption of culture outside the home . To do so, we use data from the IBGE Summary of Cultural Indicators and Information (2019), the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (PNADc/IBGE) of 2019 and the IBGE National Accounts. Among the main results, the following stand out: the total stoppage of artistic, creative and spectacle activities for five months would generate a drop of 21.2% in the gross value of the sector's own production (in the year) and 0.17 % in the economy (in the year). In monetary terms, the impact of stopping the provision of artistic and cultural services outside the home would be a drop of R$18.5 billion in the value of the economy's production. This impact implies that, for every R$1 less in the sector, there is R$1.6 less in the Economy. Therefore, the work seeks to emphasize that, in addition to the social and symbolic losses of the paralysis of the cultural sector in Brazil, there is an economic impact, which affects the Economy as a whole. |
