Abstract: | David Hume referred twice to the Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals (EPM), published in 1751, as his best work, once in his short autobiography and once in his correspondence. As he wrote in 1777 in the abstract to the last edition of his works that he supervised, the EPM was part of his attempt to ‘cast anew’ the Treatise of Human Nature, correcting ‘some negligences in his former reasoning and more in the expression’ |
