| Abstract: | O trabalho pretende avaliar a obra Sobre o poder eclesiástico, de Egídio Romano, a partir do seu contexto histórico. Para tal, reconstrói alguns elementos essenciais das disputas entre poderes seculares e a Igreja na baixa Idade Média e sua relação com a formação do pensamento hierocrático medieval, e, de modo especial, com o pensamento político de Egídio Romano. A análise possibilitou a identificação de elementos inovadores em relação à tradição do pensamento político medieval que se aproximam das teorias absolutistas desenvolvidas pelo pensamento político moderno, em que pese o uso de pressupostos distintos. |
| Abstract: | This article intends to analyse the book On ecclesiastical power, by Gilles of Rome, through his own historical context. By doing so, it reviews some concepts developed during the dispute between secular power and the Church in the late Middle Ages, and its connection with the political theory of Gilles of Rome. The article identifies some innovative elements in Gilles’ theory that can be linked to modern absolutism, in spite of their distinct assumptions. |
