Memória etnobotânica: uma possibilidade pedagógica entre escola e comunidade

Abstract

Ethnobotanical memory is an important pedagogical possibility in the relationship between school and community. Ethnobotanical memory is what makes possible, through ethnic culture, dialogues and reflections on ornamental, food and medicinal plants in the lives of people and places. The theme of collective memory based on the sharing of intergenerational knowledge about plants is essential to establish the students' affective bond with the school and the pursuit of their commitment to preserve the community's ethnic, cultural, and botanical roots. In this respect, the memory of ornamental, food and medicinal plants occupies a place of excellence because it is in the cultivation of the land and in the struggle for the survival of the poorer classes that popular wisdom guarantees sustenance and survival in the scarcity of resources. These teachings, often not learned at school, are transmitted orally, between generations and, almost always, reveal African, indigenous, or Afro-Brazilian origins. The action project - activity of the Specialization Course Teaching Residence for the Training of Basic Education Educators, a partnership between the Municipal Education Secretariat of Belo Horizonte and the Pedagogical Center of the Federal University of Minas Gerais - aimed to outline such memories, together with students from the Sergio Miranda Municipal School, Tupi neighborhood (North Region of Belo Horizonte).
