Contribuições da ciência da informação para a segurança da informação: uma abordagem teórica

Abstract

Since the second half of the twentieth century, information technologies have caused a revolution in the forms and methods of information generation, storage, processing and transmission. Making information an asset of great importance to humanity. Both, Information Security and Information Science have as their purpose the study of information and its implications. Thus, it will be sought, through the application of an exploratory methodology, the study of the themes Information Security and Information Science. On the same hand, a bibliographic survey will be conducted to identify the contributions of Information Science to the mitigation of risks, threats and vulnerabilities in Information Security. The results of the present study show the applicability of Information Science, considering the subareas defined by Saracevic (1996), for the creation of the Information Security barriers proposed by Semola (2014). Also noteworthy are the contributions from the areas of Library Science, Communication, Computer Science and Cognitive Science. As final considerations, it is recommended to apply techniques and theories from Information Science to create and implement an effective information security policy in public or private organizations. It is intended that this study can contribute to the literature of the area and thus highlight the contribution and relationship of Information Science and Information Security.
