Abstract: | Inflammatory papillary hyperplasia, a benign epithelial pro liferation, develops in 11% to 13.9% of users of upper complete dentures. Excessive relief of palatine areas, creating negative pressure resulting from continuous use of poorly adjusted den tures is the related etiology. A 54-year-old woman using maxillary complete dentures for about 20 years presented with nodular lesions in the midline region of the upper jaw between the hard and soft palates; the nodules were painless had an erythematous appear ance, and presented a normal radiographic image. Treatment with diode laser was performed using a wavelength of 808 nm ± 10 nm at a power rate of 2500 mW, depositing a tissue energy of 790 J, in the continuous mode. The total surgery time was 5 minutes and 16 seconds. The patient remained without dentures until com plete wound healing. Weekly control for 21 days was performed. After follow-up, no recurrence was noted, and the patient was re ferred for substitution of a removable total prosthesis. |
