Estimativa de idade dental em corpos não identificados: aplicação e desafios da rotina odontolegal

Abstract

The objective was to analyze the effectiveness of the criteria used by Forensic Dentistry, comparing estimated age (EI) with chronological age (CI) of unknown individuals who were admitted to the Instituto Médico Legal Dr. André Roquette in 2017. The final sample of secondary data was 167 unknown, originating from the Computerization and Management System for Judiciary Police Acts-PCNet. The use of the dental criteria (Yes/No) was categorized as: Present Teeth, Dental Wear, Presence of Remaining Edges, Mineralization of Dental Roots and Bone Structure of the Jaws, as “Yes” and Morphological Elements of the Body and Face, Attached Fabrics as “No”. The sample components were divided into Groups 1, 2 and 3, according to age group. As a result, it was seen that the majority of strangers were male (91.7%). The prevalence of use of dental criteria was 100%. It was concluded that the use of dental criteria is a relevant expert strategy in age estimation. However, there is an urgent need to calibrate the team and standardize criteria, aiming to guarantee effectiveness and scientific rigor, both at IMLAR/BH and in other Medical-Legal Institutes in the country.
