| Abstract: | O artigo trata da exploração de minério de ferro na Microrregião Belo Horizonte, formada por 24 municípios nos quais habitam milhões de pessoas. Enfatizando a questão hídrica, discute-se o planejamento expansionista da mineração e seus potenciais impactos socioambientais, sobretudo nas Bacias dos rios Paraopeba e Velhas, principais mananciais da região. Por meio de dados da Agência Nacional de Mineração, demonstramos que as novas concessões de lavra, em especial da empresa Vale, responsável pelos maiores desastres com barragens, buscam ampliar as atividades em locais degradados. Isso pode representar novos riscos socioambientais em áreas já submetidas a impactos da mineração, especialmente após a tragédia de Brumadinho e frente às barragens na bacia do Rio das Velhas em alerta máximo de rompimento. |
| Abstract: | The article deals with the exploitation of iron ore in the Belo Horizonte Microregion, formed by 24 municipalities in which millions of people live. Emphasizing the water issue, expansionist mining planning and its potential socioenvironmental impacts are discussed, especially in the Basins of the Paraopeba and Velhas rivers, the main sources of the region. Through data from the National Mining Agency, we demonstrate that the new mining concessions, especially from the company Vale, responsible for the greatest disasters with dams, seek to expand activities in degraded locations. This may represent new socioenvironmental risks in areas that have already been impacted by mining, especially after the Brumadinho tragedy and in front of the dams in the Rio das Velhas basin on maximum rupture alert. |
