| Abstract: | The oldest representation of the Captaincy of Minas Gerais that is known dates back to 1767. The document shows the progress of the population and geographical dimensions of this terri-tory, which developed during this period from the rich findings of minerals. Mainly focusing on the characteristics of the territory represented by the author, this study aims at understanding the following issues: What objective has guided the author? What did the author seek to com-municate or reveal to the recipient? What was the political context in which the map was made? |
