| Abstract: | O Portal da Memória é um monumento em homenagem às tradições e aos povos afrodescendentes que vivem na cidade. Ele estabelece uma relação com a escultura Rainha do Mar, criando um diálogo com a paisagem em um ponto da Pampulha conhecido como Praça de Iemanjá. Inaugurada em 2007, a obra do artista Jorge dos Anjos convida à reflexão sobre a arte e suas relações sociais. Neste texto, exploramos algumas das várias camadas que esse monumento traz para Belo Horizonte: sua conexão com a escultura Rainha do Mar, a Lagoa da Pampulha, a Paisagem Cultural Moderna, as Festas de Iemanjá, o processo construtivo do artista, sua geometria sensível e as interpretações dos símbolos representados no portal. Essas análises ajudam a compreender a obra não apenas pelo seu valor visual, mas também pelo que ela simboliza no campo do patrimônio cultural. |
| Abstract: | The Portal of Memory is a monument honoring the traditions and Afro-descendant peoples living in the city. It establishes a connection with the Rainha do Mar sculpture, creating a dialogue with the landscape at a point in Pampulha known as Praça de Iemanjá. Inaugurated in 2007, the work by artist Jorge dos Anjos invites reflection on art and its social relationships. In this text, we explore some of the many layers this monument brings to Belo Horizonte: its connection to the Rainha do Mar sculpture, the Pampulha Lagoon, the Modern Cultural Landscape, the Iemanjá Festivals, the artist’s construction process, its sensitive geometry, and the interpretations of the symbols represented in the portal. These analyses help to understand the work not only for its visual value but also for what it symbolizes in the field of cultural heritage. |
