Abstract: | Canine Atopic Dermatitis (ACD) is an itchy hereditary skin disease in which susceptible animals exhibit hypersensitivity reaction type I in response to environmental antigens that do not cause clinical signs in animals not genetically predisposed. It is the second most common allergic disorder in the canine population, preceded only by the Allergic Dermatitis to Flea Bite. The most common clinical signs are observed: intense pruritus, secondary infection and injury from self-injury. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of allergens causing atopic dermatitis in dogs previously diagnosed as atopic at the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. Thirty one dogs already diagnosed with CAD were previously selected. The allergy test was made by applying interadermal injection of 0.1ml of each antigen to observe the immediate allergic reaction. Twenty one antigens known to cause atopic dermatitis in children and negative and positive controls were used. Thereafter a descriptive statistics were performed to evaluate the results. |
