| Abstract: | O envelhecimento da população Brasileira e a mudança na sua estrutura etária requerem das políticas e dos profissionais de saúde atitudes definidas na abordagem de atenção à saúde com ênfase no trabalho interdisciplinar. Este trabalho bibliográfico teve por objetivo geral discutir a atuação da odontologia na atenção integral à saúde do idoso, considerando-se a necessidade da abordagem interdisciplinar. São destacadas as interações entre as diversas profissões de saúde e a odontologia, com vistas na promoção de saúde da população idosa. Os dados do levantamento bibliográfico revelam que a interação do cirurgião-dentista junto a equipes de saúde no cuidado ao idoso é existente, entretanto, com índices abaixo dos desejáveis para profissionais atuantes numa população tão heterogênea como a de terceira idade e com maior freqüência de complexidade clinica. O atendimento interdisciplinar e a atenção em todos os níveis do sistema são fatores essenciais para a integridade das ações em saúde. |
| Abstract: | The aging of the Brazilian population and the change in its age structure require policies and attitudes of health professionals as defined in health care approach with emphasis on interdisciplinary work. This literature review aims at discussing the role of dentistry in comprehensive health care for the elderly, considering the necessity of interdisciplinary approach. The authors emphasize interactions between the different health professions and dentistry, with a view to promoting the health of the elderly population. Data from literature reveal that the interaction of the dentist with the health teams in elderly care is available, however, with rates below those desirable for professionals working in a heterogeneous population such as the elderly and more frequently of complexity clinic. The interdisciplinary care and attention at all levels of the system are essential to the integrity of public health efforts. |
