Controle da infecção na odontologia

Abstract

Odontology is known for being a profession where there is the contact f the professional with the biological agent during the patient treatment, like blood, saliva and other fluids. Nowadays, the number of infectious contagious diseases and crossed infection is increasing and spreading among dental health professional. It´s noticed that the risk of viral transmission is a reality, because of that, it is very important that the dentist and his/her team know about these biological risks to which they are exposed and that it is really necessary to adopt effective conducts for infection control. The aim of this work of completion was, through a literature review, discuss and relate the methods used by the dentist to control the microorganisms in the dentists offices. In order to have this control, a good evaluation should be required, protection for the patient, personal protection, sterilization and chemical disinfection, asepsis of the equipment and an appropriate management of the rubbish. Such procedures are developed for the dental team, instruments and accessories, and personal protection equipment (EPI). We hope that this work can provide further clarification on the measures of infection control, in order to offer a safe and effective dental care to the whole population, and to dispense safety to the whole dental team.
