Abstract

In dentistry, it is considered User with Special Needs (UNE), any person who presents a sharp boundary with regard to standards of "normal" for humans, which makes it impossible or requiring a different approach to benefit from dental care conventional one. The UNE should receive a good preventive dental care to minimize or eliminate the need for dental treatment throughout his life. Prevention should be the basis of any treatment plan, but in the UNE attention to this item should be even greater. The difficulties in attendance, ranging from general health to the difficulties of carrying out the technical procedures, justify the prioritization of this issue. The main strategy for addressing UNE preventive education is the process by which the acquisition of know ledge will change behavior in relation to disease and in relation to risk factors. People who are totally or partially prevented from performing their activities of daily living and basic health care need the support of family and / or caregiver to have secured the care of oral hygiene. The family is very important to focus attention on this segment of the population, from an understanding of how the family deals with the situation.
