Perfil do aluno do curso técnico em enfermagem de uma escola técnica no município de Uberaba- MG

Abstract

This study aimed at characterizing the profile of the students in a Technical Nursing Course in a private school. It was a descriptive study in a quantitative approach, carried out with students of a technical course in the field of nursing in the town of Uberaba, state of Minas Gerais. The results showed that the majority of these professionals are young adults, predominantly of the female sex, with ages around 20 to 25 years old. Their average family income is around 2 to 3 Brazilian minimum salaries and 71.4% live in their own acquired house, however there are differences in the conditions of the homes. Concerning schooling, it was evident that 85.7% of the students do not have professional training. Concerning their assessment of the school, 42.9% of the students said that the practical training periods were not very useful, adding that there is need for a bigger amount of hours for this training; 64.3% said the knowledge acquired during the course was very good in a likert type 5 point scale. The main difficulties related by the students for taking a good course were the cost of transport and physical tiredness. The field which showed the highest affinity among the students was that of medical clinic, whereas the maternity ward received a lower affinity rate. Relating to their expectations at the end of the course, most of the students interviewed mentioned their hope of getting a good job and improve their practice in nursing. It is believed that this topic merits further attention and future studies and statistically significant sampling should be carried out in order to go deeper into what can be known concerning the profile of these students in the technical nursing course. Such studies will provide the teachers with data which will help them to plan their actions as transforming agents of these citizens. This will allow the teacher to act as a mediator between the individual and society.
