Série histórica de levantamentos epidemiológicos: planejamento e organização da saúde bucal de Caratinga

Abstract

The epidemiology is required at any oral health program that aims the confront with oral problems that affect the population to which we proposed the action planning in health. The epidemiological studies, therefore, are a powerful tool for scientific basis, being highly relevant in actions to be deflagrated, in the action plan and in the work process. This study aims to discuss the historical series of epidemiological surveys in oral health, organized by the city of Caratinga in 20 years of development of oral health program, from 1993 until the year 2012, a total of 13 studies; to compare the data of relevant interest to the study with data from SB-BRAZIL; to propose a plan of action for the problems risen (high percentage of children from the age of 5 years with caries experience, high level of adults and elderly showing partial or total edentulous) therefore requiring the intervention to the achievement of the goals proposed by the OMS and the enlargement of the adult population access to services offered by the city. In addition, we intend to indirectly subsidize the evaluation of actions carried out by Oral Health Teams that integrate the Family Health Strategies. In literary review were used data from the Virtual Health Library in Lilacs and Scielo databases. The descriptors used were: Epidemiology, Epidemiological Surveys; Oral Health; Family Health; Health Planning. Were also examined the official publications of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Health of the State of Minas Gerais, Municipal Health Secretariat of Caratinga-MG, texts and modules of the Specialization Course in Basic Care in Family Health and from the Virtual Library of the Education Center in Collective Health (NESCON). It was concluded that, despite the construction of epidemiological series, the data has not been used for an efficient surveillance system, not contributing to the planning and evaluation of services offered. We then proposed, through the development of the operating plan, the reorganization of oral health in Caratinga and the construction of the clinical care protocol for uniformity of the actions
