Resumo: I started learning English when I was ten. Therefore, sixteen years have been gone so far. Looking back, I am positive sure that learning English has helped me become the person I am today. I remember, for example, one of my first English teachers giving me classes at a language institute and challenging me every day. Bruno was an outstanding teacher. He not only challenged me with grammar and vocabulary, but also motivated me to share my opinions and discuss them. For instance, one of the things he used to do was say something sexist just to provoke me and see what would be my reaction. He would maintain his opinion until I gave him a good argument and changed his mind. Then, he would stop, laugh and say good job, Nara. That is how I turned out to be a person with such strong beliefs. Bruno was my teacher in four different semesters and, later on, when I had already started studying English at UFMG, he recommended me to a school and helped me get my first real job as an English teacher. Bruno did much more than making himself progressively unnecessary, which was supposedly his job as a teacher. He showed me that a teacher can go way beyond what he is expected to go in the educational process.
