| Title: | Hipertensão arterial sistêmica em adultos e suas implicações no tratamento odontológico |

| Abstract: | O cirurgião-dentista, por intermédio do exame físico que precede o tratamento odontológico, muitas vezes tem a oportunidade de detectar alterações na pressão arterial do seu paciente. O imediato encaminhamento deste paciente a um médico é fundamental e poderá contribuir com o diagnóstico precoce e controle da hipertensão arterial. Além disto, alguns procedimentos odontológicos podem representar riscos para um paciente hipertenso, mesmo compensado. O diálogo do dentista com o médico do paciente e o conhecimento das drogas anti-hipertensivas e suas possíveis interações com os medicamentos de uso odontológico são necessários para minimizar estes riscos. O trabalho faz uma revisão bibliográfica sobre a hipertensão arterial sistêmica no adulto, especialmente quanto a sua prevenção, diagnóstico e tratamento, discutindo os aspectos da doença de interesse do dentista na adequada abordagem odontológica ao paciente hipertenso. |
| Abstract: | The dentist, by means of a physician examination that precedes the dental treatment, many times comes across alterations in blood pressure of their patients. The immediate referral of this patient to a physician is crucial as it can lead to an early diagnosis and hypertension control. Additionally, some dental procedures may put a hypertensive patient in a situation of risk, even when the condition is under control. A dialogue between the dentist and the patients doctor and the dentists knowledge of antihypertensive drugs and their possible interactions with dental medication are essential in the neutralization of such risks. This study is a bibliographic revision of systemic hypertension in adults, especially in terms of prevention, diagnosis and treatment, and includes a discussion about how it affects dental treatment. |
