Promoção à saúde bucal da gestante

Abstract

This literature review aims to deepen knowledge on the topic promoting the oral health of pregnant women to better assist this population. A search for information was performed in databases SCIELO BIREME, LILACS, MEDLINE, using the following keywords: pregnancy, oral health promotion, prenatal. It was also used material from the Ministry of Health. The time frame was adopted from 1981 to 2013. After reading the contents of the articles were analyzed and organized according to subject matter. In pregnancy the woman undergoes major changes with both physical and psychological effects on oral health affecting pregnant women and their future children. She should know that their general and oral health directly interferes with your baby, hence the importance of prenatal care. Pregnancy is a favorable time for the multidisciplinary health team provides a focused approach to health promotion since the beginning of life because women made aware can assume the role of primary health worker in the family. The care of women's health is a duty of the State and the pregnant woman is entitled to receive dental care during pregnancy. Pregnant women are afraid to lose or damage the baby with the dental care which raises concerns of oral health team in demystifying the popular belief. The dental care, if needed, should be performed at any time during pregnancy since it is performed safely, observing the general condition of the patient as well as systemic changes and care in serving to establish an appropriate treatment plan. The study showed the importance of oral health team in attention being detected pregnant women need to create proposals for interventions aimed at improving the quality of life of the mother, baby and their family.
