AIDS na terceira idade: o idoso em situação de vulnerabilidade

Abstract

Currently lives up an aging process that brings impact and important changes to the sociocultural and political life of any country. In Brazil, the increase in the elderly population and population growth is a reality. It is estimated that by 2025 Brazil will become the sixth largest elderly population. In the last 10 years the population over 60 years in Brazil increased by approximately 35.5%, from 10.7 million to 14.5 million, the forecast for the next few decades is that this share will reach 13% of the population. This population requiring health care programs with regard to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The present study was conducted through a literature search, considering the relevance of the subject, seeking to know from the perspective of some authors, the vulnerability of the elderly population in contracting HIV. Today, advances in medicine coupled with the pharmaceutical industry, has allowed the extension of life expectancy and driven sexual life, which made the people in the "third age" more vulnerable to sexually transmitted diseases, including the HIV infection. In recent years, there has been a considerable increase of the infection incidence of notifications in old age, currently accounting for around 2.4% of infected patients. It is estimated that a total of 600 million people infected with HIV have 14,000 aged over 60 years. Most of this population is out of sexual prevention programs. This work aims to identify publications related to HIV / AIDS in the elderly.
