Correção da mordida aberta anterior com alinhadores: um relato de caso

Abstract

The orthodontic correction of dental open bite usually requires the association of intermaxillary elastics with brackets. However, several patients, mainly adults, are opposed to this alternative due to the lack of aesthetics in these techniques. This case report presents an orthodontic correction of dental anterior open bite using Invisalign® aligners. The patient presented with Class I molar and canine relationships bilaterally, minimal crowding of the maxillary anterior teeth and moderate crowding of the mandibular anterior teeth, as well as slightly increased lower facial third and presence of anterior open bite. At the end of the 10-month treatment, without the use of elastics, all functional guides were reestablished, the molar and canine relationships were maintained and the achieved overjet and overbite were satisfactory. Treatment plan was carried out through a virtual setup and allowed the correction of crowding through interproximal stripping. The malocclusion was corrected combining myofunctional therapy, extrusion of anterior teeth, and intrusion of posterior teeth, as well as retroclination of teeth and improvement of the arch format. This case report shows that orthodontic treatment using the Invisalign® system is efficient for the correction of dental anterior open bite and re-establishment of a satisfactory occlusion.
