Ajuste oclusal na ortodontia: uma revisão da literatura

Abstract

For the completion of orthodontic treatment quality knowledge of dental occlusion should be considered a fundamental condition. It is known that it is important to check the occlusal contacts to define the type of tooth movement required to achieve the dental equilibrium To this end, the aim of this study was to review the literature regarding the need for occlusal adjustment in patients treated orthodontic, their advantages and when performing, as is a clinical procedure that aims to get a mandibular stability, free from prematuriteies and occlusal interferences. After reviewing the literature we came to the conclusion that the occlusal adjustment may be displayed before, during and after the orthodontic treatment in order to obtain an adequate mandibular stability, free from occlusal interference which can cause relapses and joint problems. However, the occlusal adjustment must be done with great care, the professional should have a certain knowledge of occlusion and the stomatognathic system, as well as an accurate indication for each patient, as any failure in their planning or execution leads to permanent and irreversible damage to the patient. It is of utmost prudence, only intervene before an established disease and not as preventive method so that the professional does not create an iatrogenic to his patient.
