Método de confecção de placa oclusal: ajuste simplificado

Abstract

The occlusal splints are removable intraoral devices usually made of acrylic resin, which overlying, partially or totally, the incisal surfaces and occlusal tooth by changing the occlusion of the patient, thus creating stable occlusal contacts and therefore a maxillo-mandibular relationship more favorable. The aim of our study was to perform a method of making a simplified set of acrylic resin plate built into the upper arch of the patient. For this, overall impressions of upper and lower dental arches were made of a patient for the preparation of working models. These models were mounted in centric relation, in a semi-adjustable articulator. After this assembly, it was made the splint waxing leaving the posterior region without occlusal contact and were given anterior and laterality guidances. The plate was pressed that way and the patient was instructed to use the splint at home the maximum time possible, without the posterior contacts, for a week. Upon return to the clinic, it was possible to manipulate the patient's mandible in centric relation with greater precision and ease, and at that time were given the posterior contacts directly in the mouth in centric relation, by applying portions of self-polymerizing acrylic resin at the locations where the lower centric cusp tips would contact. We concluded that the splints adjustment has become easier since it dispenses conventional fully adjustment made in the splints pressed from a waxing. Furthermore, the final splint was according to the criteria suggested in the literature for a stabilization splint.
