dc.description.abstract | The iliotibial band (BIT) or iliotibial tract is a lateral thickening of the tensor fasciae latae muscle thigh, being generally regarded as a fibrous, dense connective tissue band, passing through the lateral femoral epicondyle and inserts into the Gerby tubercle in the anterolateral aspect of the tibia. However, iliotibial band syndrome (SBIT) is characterized as an overuse injury (overuse), caused by friction or excessive compression of the iliotibial band on the eminence of the lateral femoral epicondyle. As epidemiological data and certain studies used in research, SBIT mainly affects cyclists and runners, accounting for 1.6% to 12% (ORAVA 1978, MCNICOL, 1981; MESSIER, 1995; FREDERICSON, 2000; TAUNTON, 2002) of all the running-related injuries. In order to simplify such modifications whether extrinsic or intrinsic, aiding a better understanding of possible causal factors, with main goal in clinical practice. | pt_BR |
| pt_BR |
