Mineração e dinâmica produtiva

Abstract

Industry Mining is one of the more traditional segments of the Minas Gerais economy. During the 2000s its importance became even more evident with the positive shock of demand for mineral commodities. Such activity is permeated by peculiarities that impact the local productive dynamics. There are significant income generation, but also the leak and the tendency to dependence on mineral activity. The objective of this work is to determine the effects of mining on the productive structure of the municipalities of mineral intensive high and Minas Gerais from concepts of Regional and Urban Economics. Understand the extent to which this sector constitutes an export base in the design of North (1955) requires verification of their degree of productive chain, approached by Hirschman (1958), and their consequent productive spillovers (Marshall, 1890; Jacobs, 1969) . For this purpose we used different methods of regional and urban analysis as well as econometric models, including spacepanel. Empirical evidence indicates that mining economy followed the export base process, but not the conclusion. Moreover, during the 2000s, the dependence on export base was deepened. At the municipal level, there was relative loss of regional differentials in the industrial complex activities and services- as well as in health care, education and leisure. Incontrast, there was the gain of the regional differences in utilities.
