Lazer e trabalho em tempos líquidos: apropriação das redes sociais virtuais por bibliotecários da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais

Abstract

This research sought to understand the leisure / labor relations of UFMG librarians in virtual social networks (RSVs), having been guided by some questions: to what extent these professionals use virtual social networks for work purposes and as a leisure option? What are the forms of appropriation? They consider that the professional life and personal intertwine, or not? The study was based on theoretical assumptions of Bauman (2001, 2007) and Castells (2002). In the context of this research, liquid life means an experience where the interactions between work and leisure of people through technology does not have a time punctuated by the clock, and mixed by interstices of one and the other in several places. The methodology of this qualitative and quantitative research encompassed electronic questionnaire and use of NVivo11 software to support content analysis, and thus allow the organization of this analysis into three categories. This tool allowed the identification of the most quoted words and the relationship between them. The results showed that the RSVs were given in five main uses of the internet at work and outside it, as well as e-mails, which appears first in both cases. The three most used RSVs are Facebook, YouTube and Google+. More than half of librarians accesses RSVs three devices: mobile phone, home computer and work computer. Few people actually approached the hypothesis that the professional life and personal blend in time / space of the digital age, fitting in the hyper Internet profile. There are different views regarding the use of RSVs for work and leisure and they are more valued for the job. The cooperation appears in the form of use of networks for work purposes and not necessarily for leisure, which is understandable in that the research focuses on a professional category. Most participants felt that access to RSVs generated impacts on personal and professional life, and these positive impacts in most cases. More than half of the participants understood that flexibility mediated by technologies generated work overload and considers that their professional and personal lives are mixed in RSVs.
