| Abstract: | Existem casos onde a dimensão vertical de oclusão (DVO) precisa ser alterada. Um deles é quando ocorre o desgaste dental severo dos dentes. As conseqüências clínicas observadas nesses pacientes quando ocorre a alteração da DVO para menos são aparência facial envelhecida, falta de espaço interoclusal para reabilitação oral e dificuldade ao pronunciar palavras com sons sibilantes como o S. O resgate da dimensão vertical de oclusão melhora a estética, mas acima de tudo, restabelece função. O objetivo deste trabalho é rever a literatura relatando clinicamente quando e por que alterar a dimensão vertical de oclusão. |
| Abstract: | There are cases where the vertical dimension of occlusion (DVO) to be changed. One is when there is severe tooth wear of the teeth. The clinical consequences observed in these patients when change occurs below are aged facial appearance, lack of interocclusal space for oral rehabilitation and difficulty pronouncing words with sibilant sounds like "S". The rescue of the vertical dimension of occlusion improves aesthetics, but above all, restoring function. The aim of this paper is to review the literature reporting clinically when and why to change the occlusal vertical dimension. |
