| Abstract: | Este trabalho investiga a relação entre as condições de saúde bucal e os determinantes sociais de saúde. O objetivo foi buscar uma relação entre a cárie dentária e os seus determinantes mais gerais, a fim de conhecer os fatores preditivos da doença e implantar medidas de promoção em saúde bucal. Realizou-se uma revisão narrativa com artigos publicados no período de 1990 a 2010. Os resultados mostraram que a polarização da cárie ocorreu nos grupos de maior privação socioeconômica. Há uma correlação negativa entre o alto índice de cárie com a renda, educação, índice de desenvolvimento humano, local de moradia (zona rural), estudar em escolas públicas. Esses dados demonstraram a necessidade de ações sobre os determinantes sociais de saúde para o controle da cárie dentária nas regiões mais carentes. |
| Abstract: | This paper investigates the relationship between oral health conditions and social determinants of health. We aimed to find a relationship between dental caries and their determinants more generally, to ascertain the predictors of the disease and implement measures to promote oral health. We conducted a narrative review of articles published between 1990 to 2010. The results showed that the polarization of caries occurred in groups with higher socioeconomic deprivation. There is a negative correlation between the high prevalence with income, education, human development index, place of residence (rural), study in public schools. These data demonstrated the need for action on social determinants of health for the control of dental caries in the neediest regions. |
