| Abstract: | O presente estudo tem como objetivo analisar o comportamento da oferta e demanda de aço no Brasil no período de 1955-2010. O estudo utiliza dados anuais do Instituto Aço do Brasil e Banco Central do Brasil. Com base na metodologia de vetores autoregressivos (VAR), conclui-se que a variação na demanda de aço precede as variações no PIB, e para o período previsto entre 2011-2020 a demanda de aço e PIB deverão crescer em média 7% e 4% ao ano, respectivamente. E por fim, verifica-se um desequilíbrio entre oferta e demanda de aço no cenário no qual 60% das intenções de investimentos se efetivam e naquele em que há redução da participação das importações para 5% da demanda. Logo, para manter a estratégia atual de atendimento ao mercado interno, e exportação em torno de 30% da produção, as intenções de investimentos anunciadas estão em linha com as perspectivas de crescimento da demanda de aço. |
| Abstract: | The present study aims to analyze the balance of Brazilian steel supply and demand from 1955-2010. The study uses annual data of the Steel Institute of Brazil and Central Bank of Brazil. Based on the methodology of vector autoregression (VAR), we conclude that the variation in demand for steel precedes changes in GDP, and forecasting for period 2011-2020 provided between steel demand and GDP should grow by an average 7% and 4 % per year, respectively. And finally, there is an imbalance between supply and demand for steel in the scenario where 60% of investment intentions become effective and that where there is reduction in the share of imports to 5% of demand. Therefore, to maintain the current perfomance strategy to the domestic market and foreign market around 30% of production, the investment plans are in line with forecasts of growth in steel demand for the next years. |
