| Title: | Eu tomo medicamentos para estudar: compreendendo a experiência com Metilfenidato entre estudantes universitários |

| Abstract: | O metilfenidato é um medicamento utilizado para o tratamento do Transtorno do Déficit de Atenção e Hiperatividade (TDAH) e para a narcolepsia. Seu consumo no Brasil e no mundo tem aumentado a cada ano, bem como o uso não médico para neuroaprimoramento, o que vem chamando a atenção de pesquisadores e da população em geral. Conhecer a experiência com o uso do metilfenidato e os significados que seus usuários lhe atribuem, poderia contribuir para aumentar a compreensão sobre o medicamento e sensibilizar profissionais da saúde e da educação sobre as questões que envolvem este uso. Para acessar essa experiência, escolheu-se como metodologia o fotovoz. Nesta abordagem, fotografias captadas pelos próprios participantes da pesquisa foram utilizadas como o ponto de partida para reflexão e discussão. As gravações e transcrições das entrevistas constituíram os dados, que foram analisados na perspectiva da teoria da ação dialógica de Paulo Freire com a ajuda do software NVivo 10. A análise dos dados resultou em três temas e seis subtemas. O primeiro tema foi A Entrada na Faculdade: Estude... Você não é tão bom assim, com os subtemas Eu não consigo e A busca por ajuda. O segundo foi A Entrada do Medicamento na Vida: a Experiência com o uso de Metilfenidato e seus subtemas foram A vida é linda, a felicidade é química: as expectativas; Se ele é tarja preta, ele deve ser mais forte: os medos; Os efeitos sentidos no corpo e O domínio sobre a terapia medicamentosa. O terceiro tema encontrado foi As Diferentes Percepções sobre o TDAH e o Neuroaprimoramento, em que foram abordados os sentimentos ambíguos e muitas vezes conflitantes encontrados nas entrevistas. O uso do metilfenidato ainda envolve muita polêmica e mais pesquisas devem ser desenvolvidas para ampliar o conhecimento e debate sobre o tema. Também é preciso ampliar as discussões sobre o método de ensino usado nas escolas e universidades atuais e sobre o papel da equipe multiprofissional no acompanhamento de pacientes em uso deste medicamento. |
| Abstract: | Methylphenidate is a medication used in the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. Its consumption in Brazil and in the world is growing each year, as well as its non-medical usage for neuroenhancement, which is drawing the attention of researchers and society in general. Understanding university students medication experience with methylphenidate and the meaning they give to it, may contribute to raise knowledge about this medication and sensitize health and education professionals about the questions surrounding its use. Photovoice was the methodology chosen to access the medication experience with methylphenidate. In this approach, photographs captured by participants were used as the starting point for reflection and discussion. The interviews recordings and transcriptions constituted the data and were analyzed through Paulo Freires dialogic action theory. NVivo 10 software was used in the analysis. Data analysis resulted in three themes and six subthemes. The first theme was Entering College: Study You are not as good as you think, and the subthemes were I cant and The search for help. The second theme was The Entrance of the Medication in Life: The Medication Experience with Methylphenidate. Its subthemes were Life is beautiful, happiness is chemical: the expectations; If it is black labeled, its supposed to be stronger: the fears; The bodily effects and The control over the pharmacological treatment. The third theme was The Different Perceptions about ADHD and Neuroenhancement, in which the ambiguous and conflicting feelings of participants regarding that medication were discussed. Methylphenidate usage is surrounded with controversy and more research must be conducted to increase knowledge and debate about the theme. It is also important to discuss the methodology used at schools and university nowadays and the role of the multiprofessional team in the patients follow-up. |
