| Abstract: | A inteligência empresarial (IE) é uma função fundamental ao desenvolvimento das organizações, uma vez que é através dela que são obtidas as informações externas necessárias à tomada de decisões e à elaboração de estratégias. Este estudo investiga as práticas adotadas por executivos de micro, pequenas e médias indústrias do setor metal mecânico, situadas na região do Vale do Aço em Minas Gerais, para monitorar e obter as informações necessárias às suas atividades. Partindo da identificação das necessidades informacionais destes executivos, este estudo aborda aspectos relativos à implementação da função de IE e às fontes de informação utilizadas por ela. Investiga ainda, de forma especial, a utilização da Internet e de seus recursos enquanto fonte de informação para a IE. |
| Abstract: | The Business Intelligence (BI) is a fundamental function to the development of the organizations because it permits the gathering of external information for decision-making and the development of strategic planning. This study discusses the practices adopted by managers of small and medium size enterprises in the metal mechanical industry for monitoring and gathering the information needed in their activities. The companies are situated in Vale do Aço region in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Beginning from the identification of information needs this study include topics such as the implementation of BI function and their information sources. It also discusses the use of Internet and its resources while information source for BI. |
