dc.description.abstract | The late onset muscle soreness (DOMS) is characterized as a feeling of discomfort and / or pain in the skeletal muscles that occurs a few hours after the practice of exercise. The pain symptoms appear within 24 hours after the effort, reaching maximum intensity between 24 and 72 hours and may persist for up to 7 days. The early events associated with muscle microlesion involvement of DOMS and are mechanical in nature, the voltage generated in the sarcomeres during exercise, promote the disruption of the muscle structure and consequent damage, allowing the hydrolysis of protein and calcium by activating pathways related to degradation and muscle repair. Several factors can influence inflammatory responses after exercise, such as aging, gender, repeated bouts of eccentric exercise, antioxidant supplements, intracellular calcium homeostasis and the anti-inflammatory drugs. Muscle pain and damage to muscular structures of connective tissue occurred during physical activity can result in changes in muscle and joint functions. Such changes may reduce the performance of training, increasing the risk of musculoskeletal injuries | pt_BR |
