| Abstract: | Esta tese tem como objetivo descrever e analisar as pesquisas em nível de mestrado e doutorado realizadas no período de 1980 a 2012, sobre as vogais médias em posição pretônica no português brasileiro. A partir de uma revisão de toda a literatura, através de uma metodologiadenominada de Síntese de Pesquisas (Norris e Ortega, 2006) e com o recurso estatístico da meta-análise (Glass, 1977), discuto os resultados das investigações sobre o vocalismo pretônico que tiveram como suporte a teoria da variação, referenciada por Willian Labov, nas décadas de 60 e 70. Identifica-se o que há em comum em relação às análises dos fatores sociais e linguísticos considerados como favorecedores ou inibidores da alternância das vogais médiasanterior e posterior, que ora podem se realizar como [e ~ e ~ i] e [o ~ o~ u] em vários dialetos do Brasil. Observou-se que a busca pelo melhor modelo para explicar o fenômeno de variação que acomete essas vogais seguem o mesmo padrão ao longo de mais de trinta anos de pesquisa: o modelo da Sociolinguística quantitativa. Com poucas inserções em outras teorias, as 28 dissertações de mestrado e 10 teses de doutorado utilizadas como referências, contemplamquase todas as regiões brasileiras e confirmam essa abordagem. Desse material extraímos os fatores linguísticos e não-linguísticos, observados pelos pesquisadores como variáveis independentes, bem como o resultado da atuação dos mesmos na realização da pretônica. Os dados referentes aos resultados de todas as pesquisas, organizados em tabelas, nos permitiram comparar as diferenças e semelhanças entre eles, e mostrar o que ainda pode ser discutido emrelação ao vocalismo pretônico. A pesquisa realizada não encontrou nenhuma resposta para a questão da alternância pretônica. Entretanto, evidenciou uma maior influência de fatores linguísticos para sua realização. É provável que nenhuma teoria fonológica consiga explicitaro tipo de variação vocálica abordada aqui, pois, conforme Oliveira (2013), os fenômenos linguísticos estão relacionados a um sistema dinâmico da língua que envolve um conjunto de atratores internos e externos. Uma nova abordagem, como a teoria da complexidade tem muito a oferecer às pesquisas futuras sobre o vocalismo pretônico, e, talvez, possa apaziguar a inquietação dos pesquisadores sobre esse fenômeno. |
| Abstract: | This dissertation aims to describe and analyze master and doctoral researches from 1980 to 2012 about mid vowels in unstressed position in Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation.Starting from a literature review of the subject, using the research synthesis methodology (Norris and Ortega, 2006) and the statistical meta-analysis (Glass, 1977), we discuss the results of investigations on the pretonic vocalism which had the support of the theory ofvariation, referenced by William Labov in the 60s and 70s. We tried to identify what was in common in relation to the analysis of social and linguistic factors considered enhancers or inhibitors of alternating mid vowels before and after, which sometimes can be realizedas [e ~ D~ i ] e [o ~ N ~ u ] in several dialects in Brazil.It was observed that the search for the best model to explain the phenomenon of variation affecting these vowels follow the same pattern over more than thirty years of research, and the model of quantitative sociolinguistics, with few insertions phonological theories.Twenty-eight (28) master's theses and ten (10) doctoral dissertations were used as references, covering almost all Brazilian regions. From this material, we extract the linguistic and non-linguistic factors, observed by researchers as independent variables, as well as the result of action of these factors in the realization of unstressed.The data produced from the results of all researches, organized in tables, allowed us to compare the differences and similarities between them, and show what can still be discussed in relation to pretonic vocalism. This research found no answers to the pretonic alternation.However, it showed a greater influence from linguistic factors for its realization. It is possible that no phonological theory can explain the type of vowel variation discussed here, because the linguistic phenomena are related to a dynamic language phenomenon that involves a set of internal and external attractors (Oliveira, 2013). However, complexitytheory has much to offer to future researches on the pretonic vocalism , and the search for an effective answer to this question. |
