Dinâmica da agricultura familiar para o abastecimento urbano: um estudo de caso em uma cidade de porte médio

Abstract

Family farming plays a key role in generating income, and supplying urban centers. Consequently, associated with this activity are generated urban and regional flows. Thus, the objective of this dissertation is to analyze the spatial interactions between the city of Guanambi (BA) and the surrounding areas due to the family farming operations at the city market in order to spatially characterize the transport of family farming goods and their consumers. The methodology used was based on the information that were obtained in interviews at the free fair with family farmers and consumers, in addition to on-site observations. The questions addressed in the questionnaire were based on the literature revision. The interviews were conducted between February and August of 2018. From the obtained results, it was possible to identify that the city market of Guanambi plays urban and regional articulations with several surrounding cities and rural locations, and can be considered a travel-generating territory. In addition, 73% of the farmers are willing to travel, at maximum, 50 kilometers to sell their products. In contrast, the consumers are on average 19 kilometers from the city fair. The principles of the von Thünen model were evaluated considering the influence of the distance to the urban center, the selling price of the product and the location of the family farming properties. Some adaptations were applied to the model for the elaboration of the concentric rings to the city market, thus making possible to verify that fruits are placed on a further radius and have a higher average sale price, while the vegetables are placed on a closer radius and have lower price. Thus, this study indicates that the principles of von Thünen model remain valid once they consider the difference in the transport cost and the spatial influence in agricultural production
