Abstract:	O texto tem por objetivo a análise da institucionalização da memória no século XIX por meio da criação de lugares de memória e o uso político dessa memória como instrumento de disciplinarização. Especificamente, a criação do Arquivo Público Mineiro (APM) e os jogos de poder que envolveram a sua criação e a constituição do seu acervo. Além disso, na pessoa do primeiro diretor da instituição José Pedro Xavier da Veiga, buscaremos compreender a idéia de história que motivou a criação do APM.
Abstract:	The objective of this text is the analysis of memory institucionalization in the XIX century through the creation of "memory places" and its political use as a disciplinary instrument. Specifically, the creation of the Arquivo Público Mineiro (APM) and the power games that surrounded its creation and the establishment of its collection. Moreover, following the footsteps of the institution´s first director José Pedro Xavier da Veiga, we will examine the historical idea that motivated the creation of the APM.
