Plano de intervenção para tratamento periodontal em pacientes diabéticos em Ipatinga/MG

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease of endocrine origin, characterized by partial or total deficiency in insulin production or resistance to the insulin action. This disorder can cause critical modifications at glucose, lipid and protein metabolisms, resulting in some systemic complications such as the increased at inflammatory process in the gum tissues. Because of this fact, the association between Diabetes Mellitus with Periodontal Disease has been heavily investigated recently. Some studies have reported that not only the individual periodontal treatment is necessary, but it is so important to establish strategies for oral health promotion and motivating the patient to self-care and their own participation into the health / disease process. This function belongs to the municipal oral health team, in accordance with the plan to reorganization to avoid Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus.The target for this study is to promote a literature review to support the development of an Intervention Plan. This Plan may be useful in a Periodontal Disease Treatment for patients with Diabetes Mellitus for the municipality of Ipatinga, MG. Also, this study can be able to create new strategies for health promotion and prevention of the Periodontal Disease for these patients, emphasizing the practice of a continuing education. It was done a search for scientific publications dated between 2000 e 2012 in BIREME databases (MEDLINE e LILACS), CAPES (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior) and SCIELO (Scientific Eletronic Library Online) that could assure the analysis of the reports obtained. To provide better care to patients with diabetes is necessary that health professionals work in an interdisciplinary manner, with the dentist inserted in the clinical treatment and prevention of these patients. It is expected that the proposal developed in this work can be effective in reorienting the work performed in diabetic patients in Ipatinga, MG, thus contributing to the strengthening of the ideals advocated by SUS.
