local.description.resumoThe Public Archive of Minas Gerais (APM) is the oldest cultural institution in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and has essential administrative and cultural roles. The significance or symbolic value communities attribute to the institution and its documentary collections is the subject of interdisciplinary research. A contingent valuation survey was conducted with 366 individuals from October 2023 to March 2024. Findings show that APM is highly valued for its cultural and historical contributions, especially by highly educated individuals, but its administrative and civic importance is underrecognized. Enhancing public communication and governmental support is crucial for APM to achieve its mission fully.
