Abstract

This study aims to identify the relationship between the causes of the increase in the incidence of Congenital Syphilis and the Social Vulnerability. Even considering that the factors responsible for the growth of this disease have multidimensional causes, this research assumes that the high index of pregnant Women and infected infants has an intrinsic relation with the social context of the patient. It was sought through the theoretical reference and academic formation of this author, the understanding that the capitalist mode of production through exploitation of the proletariat's labor force and the "reserve industrial army" (Marxian definition for surplus workers, unemployed) is responsible for promoting a context of social vulnerability. Within this framework, demands arise that will require responses from the state in the form of Public Social Policies. Once the policies implemented are fragmented and ineffective, and do not embrace the needs of individuals, a vicious circle is created. With regard to health, the vulnerability situation is a driving force for the disease and on the other hand, a diagnosis and inadequate treatment as responsible for the aggravation of the context of vulnerability.
