História, memória e direitos humanos em Meio Sol Amarelo

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationships between history, memory and human rights in the novel Half of a Yellow Sun, written by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The novel follows a series of characters during the Biafran War, a military conflict motivated by the attempted secession of southeastern Nigeria, during the 1960s. Although it is fictional, the text is based on a historical basis, allowing cultural aspects of the context it portrays to be identified. Thus, based on the theoretical foundation, which highlights Falola and Heaton (2008), Felman (2014), and White (2001), as relevant contributions, this bibliographical research intends to investigate the historical records and the manifestation of memory in Adichie's narrative, as well as question the effectiveness of human rights in the war scenes narrated. Thus, the resistance of the voices reporting collective memories in Nigeria was confirmed, as they are concerned with the propagation of plural stories, without disregarding the episodes of extreme violence on the continent.
