| dc.description.abstract | From Tevye the Milkman to the Fiddler on the Roof - Abstract: This article intends to present the trajectory of the famous character in Scholem Aleikhem’s Tevye the Milkman (1893-1916; in English: Tévye’s Daughters), in the Broadway musical theatre masterpiece Fiddler on the Roof (1964) by Joseph Stein, and in the film Fiddler on the Roof (1971) by Norman Jewison. From previous studies of the Jewish world of Eastern Europe, Marc Chagall, and the shtetl as the space of the Jewish tradition, I will reflect on the filmic and theatrical adaptations of Scholem Aleikhem’s book, based on the concepts of “transcreation”, “recreation”, “intersemiotic translation” and “interpretation”, according to the theories of Haroldo de Campos, Julio Plaza, and Robert Stam. | |

| local.description.resumo | Nossa contribuição visa a uma apresentação da trajetória do famoso personagem Tévye, no livro Tévye der Milkhiker (1893-1916; טבֿיה דער מילכיקער), de Scholem Aleikhem, no musical da Broadway Fiddler on the Roof (1964), de Joseph Stein, e no filme Fiddler on the Roof (1971), de Norman Jewison. A partir de estudos anteriores sobre o universo judaico do Leste Europeu, sobre Marc Chagall, e sobre o shtetl enquanto espaço da tradição judaica, pretendemos refletir sobre a adaptação fílmica e teatral da obra de Scholem Aleikhem, baseados para isso nos conceitos de “transcriação”, “recriação”, “tradução intersemiótica” e “interpretação”, de acordo com estudiosos como Haroldo de Campos, Julio Plaza e Robert Stam. | |
