Estudos da tradução: desafios para a formação de pesquisadores e tradutores

Abstract

Discussion on translation researcher/translator education faces some challenges with the spread of translation studies worldwide due to the diversity and interdisciplinarity in the field. This article examines some of these challenges, focusing on one of them, the interface of linguistic and literary approaches in educating translation researchers and translators. It reviews the most recent trends in the field. It points to the difficulty in defining its object of study, and presents some attempts at defining the concept “translation” and at mapping the field conceptually or designing its landscape as potentially open. The article suggests Hatim and Mason(2004)’s map of the interfaces of translation studies can be extended so as to include the recent trends of humanities (especially sociology) and biology. Finally, it suggests there should be an interface of linguistic and literary approaches, taken as pioneers in translation studies, in translation education. It is suggested this could be done through the notion of translator’s voice, a common concept in methodologies of text analysis in both approaches, linguistic and literary.
