O uso agressivo da linguagem em uma audiência: uma abordagem discursiva e interacionista para o estudo da im/polidez

Abstract

Contemporary scholars of im/politeness have pointed to limitations in the traditional approaches of the phenomenon, such as the absence of an interactive conception of im/politeness and the use of the speech act as a unit of analysis. To overcome these limitations, these scholars investigate the communicative functions of im/politeness strategies in precise institutional settings. Inserted in this context, this article aims to show how the Modular Approach to Discourse Analysis can be a theoretical and methodological alternative for the study of im/politeness strategies. For this, we analyze an excerpt from an audience whose participants are the judge and the accused of aggression against his former partner. With the study of this ex-cerpt, it was possible to investigate how interactants use language to negotiate (sub-vert, reject, sustain) properties of the context, claiming or questioning the rights and duties associated with their social status. Using the Modular Approach to Discourse Analysis, it was thus possible to reveal the interactional, dynamic and situated nature of im/politeness.
