Os conflitos urbanos como busca pelo direito à cidade: o caso da Stock Car em Belo Horizonte

Abstract

The present work aims to discuss the approval process of the Stock Car proposal in Belo Horizonte, based on documents provided by the municipal government and contrasting them with the demonstrations fromgroups opposed to the project. We will explore the pursuit of the right to the city through participation in decision-making processes related to urban planning. To conduct this research, we surveyed and analyzed opinions and studies developed by the relevant municipal bodies involved in assessing the impacts of the Stock Car event, as well as urban and environmental legislation relatedto the topic, and media reports. Field visits were also conducted at the proposed site to observe how urban conflicts manifest and to analyze aspects related to the region designated for the project’s implementation. Based on the context of the region where the project is located, current regulations, and the deliberative process concerning its approval, we will reflect on urban conflicts as an alternative model of popular participation and the quest for the right to the city.
