Violência e desencanto na sociedade brasileira: reflexões a partir do sistema prisional

Abstract

The text aims to discuss the theme of violence in Brazil, taking as na analytical reference the culture and practice of imprisonment, its mechanics and its effects. And it does so with very clear intentions, according to the two sections of the text: in the first, it is a question of explaining the unjust and dangerous character of the prison system, as an institutionality that endorses the extreme social inequality prevailing in Brazil, counting on the apathy of a society that amixes inability and indifference in the face of its problems; and, in the second part, it argues in favor of a necessary political reorientation in the face of the problem of violence – a creative shift to the “left” - to face the erosion of our national hopes.
